BELAZ and potash fertilizers. How Minsk Region will strengthen economic ties with South Africa

Prospects for cooperation between Minsk region and South Africa were discussed on September 29 at Minsk Regional Executive Committee. The head of the central region Alexander Turchin met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Africa to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus concurrently Mzuvukile Jeff Maketuka.

As Alexander Turchin emphasized, Minsk region is already closely cooperating with the Republic of South Africa, but the pace of interaction must be increased.

- We send BELAZ products to South Africa, our potash fertilizers. But we are not going to limit ourselves to this. Today, our large food industry enterprises are entering the African market, and we, of course, are interested in increasing this cooperation, - said the head of the central region. - As for our agreements with the Ambassador, we noted that we consider South Africa as a region of the African continent, where we are ready to work intensively.

Alexander Turchin recalled the SADC organization, which unites 11 countries of the South African region.

- We agreed that in the near future, when we are ready, we will present the potential of the Minsk region to all the ambassadors of these states. In my opinion, this is a very important event, we see its prospects. They also said that any cooperation is easier to develop when there is some kind of interpersonal relationship. Therefore, in the near future we will exchange invitations with our partners from South Africa and determine: either they will visit our country, or we will go to them. So no matter how far the distances between our countries are, we clearly see the prospects for our further cooperation - both in the supply of goods to South Africa, there and in the import of their products.

The Chairman of Minsk Oblast Executive Committee stressed: this was his first meeting with the recently appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Africa to the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus concurrently Mzuvukile Jeff Maketuka.

- What I liked about the gentleman after: he believes that we should not be scattered in many directions, but take 1-2 concrete steps so that we can talk about the effectiveness of our actions, summed up Аleksandr Turchin.
