Students from Minsk Oblast to represent Belarus at Intel ISEF in USA

Two school students from Minsk Oblast whose projects were named best at Belarus Science and Engineering Fair 2017 (BelSEF), the country's largest national science contest for school children, will represent Belarus at Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in the United States, BelTA learned from Minsk Regional Institute of Education, one of the main organizers of the national selection.

The BelSEF 2017 winners are Vladislav Gadalov, an 11-grade student of secondary school No. 11 from Slutsk (the project “AirPhone, a next generation smartphone”) and Aleksandra Kokhovets, a 10-grade student of Gymnasium No. 1 from Zhodino (the project “Goldenrod, a promising material for national pharmacology and energy sectors”).

The BelSEF 2017 final stage was held in the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR). It featured 48 projects. The projects were evaluated by scientific, pedagogical, business and youth jury panels. Contestants had to demonstrate their ability to present their work, to defend their own point of view, and to answer further questions. The scientific jury consisted of representatives of the scientific community of the country: doctors, candidates of sciences, experts and employees of the Belarusian State University, BSUIR, Belarusian National Technical University, the National Academy of Sciences, and others.

Intel ISEF will be held in Los Angeles, California on 14-19 May. BelSEF winners have represented Belarus at the international competition in the United States since 2013. They have received special prizes and diplomas from American companies, foundations and the jury.

Diplomas and prizes were presented to the winners of the BelSEF 2017 contest in different categories (IT, Mathematics, Engineering and Robotics technology, Physics, Ecology and Environmental Problems, Energy-Saving Technologies). The participants of the contest also received special prizes from the pedagogical, youth and business juries, Intel Corporation, partners of the contest and the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics.

Belarus Science and Engineering Fair 2017 was organized by the education department of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, the Minsk Oblast Institute of Education Development, the Administration of the Hi-Tech Park, Intel Corporation.
