Minsk Oblast and its Chinese twin region Guangdong intend to develop cooperation in the areas of culture and education, Minsk Oblast Governor Semyon Shapiro told Belarusian and Chinese journalists on 2 May, BelTA has learned.

For instance, Minsk Oblast has twinned with Guangdong Province, one of the most economically developed regions in China. In his words, the previous meeting with representatives of the Chinese province was focused on many promising areas of cooperation, including direct flight connection. Besides, the parties discussed the issues related to education, culture and sports.

At the same time trade and economic, investment projects remain to be high on the agenda. “We should create necessary economic conditions so that the Chinese business would like to come to Belarus,” said the Minsk Oblast governor. He cited the Great Stone Industrial Park and the joint car making plant BelGee as the examples of the most successful investment cooperation between the two countries.

Semyon Shapiro is convinced that China is interested in coming to Belarus taking into account Belarus' membership in such integration associations as the Eurasian Economic Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States. In turn, Belarus is interested in creating new jobs.

Representatives of the Chinese mass media are in Belarus on a press tour on 1-7 May.
